In 1965 THE EQUALS were founded by the brothers Derv and Lincoln Gordon (from Jamaica coming), Eddy Grant ( from British Guyana coming) and Pat Lloyd from London. They all met at Acland Burghley School in the north of London.

After playing on school-festivals for a while, came in 1966 the offer of a record-contract with President Records. At the first session were already the hits "Baby Come Back", "Hold Me Closer" and "I Wont Be there" recorded. The first single was released in April 1966 "I wont be there".

This soul-pop-number was very soon a favorite song of the pirate radio-stations and soon charted in Holland and Germany. With the next release came the European success "BABY COME BACK" . Originally the B-side of "HOLD MECLOSER" turned Dutch DJs the record and made "BABY COME BACK" to number one in Holland and Top 10 in Germany.

End of 1967 "POLICE ON MY BACK" followed and in February 1968 "I GET SO EXCITED" came as first single in the British charts, followed by the Nr. 1 - Hit of the British Top-Twenty in May 1968: "BABY COME BACK"

Many hits followed between 1968 and 1971: LAUREL & HARDY , SOFTLY SOFTLY , GREEN LIGHT , MICHAEL AND THE SLIPPER TREE , VIVA BOBBY JOE , RUB A DUB DUB , SOULBROTHER CLIFFORD , I CAN SEE, BUT YOU DON`T KNOW , LET`S GO TO THE MOON , BLACK SKIN BLUE EYED BOYS und HELP ME SIMONE .

In the years between 1976 and the late eighties all members made their own way. The re-union was arranged through singer Derv Gordon and Pat Lloyd end of the eighties. Together with Ronnie Telemaque and David Martin the Equals were back on the stages of Europe.

Since the nineties the group is back on stage ! And very successful !

Dozens of TV-shows, tours, open-air-shows, gala-shows, oldie-nights and city-festivals !

One of the best sixties-groups live ! All the hits and more !

KölnArena with 15.000 people, Waldbühne Berlin with 20.000, Volkspark-Stadium Hamburg with 25.000, Arena on Schalke with over 25.000, Porsche-Oldie-Night Stuttgart, Stadium Zürich, Open-air Bad Segeberg, Stadthalle Vienna, Arena Oberhausen and many others are milestones of the Equals between 2005 and 2017 !

2018/19 THE EQUALS are starting very successful with two new members, DECOSTA BOYCE, KEELING LEE and JOHN HALEY !
